Anderson, PhD, and Kurt D. Vogel, PhD.
Join the Humane Handling Institute for their annual review of Humane Handling Enforcement Actions from 2024. This webinar takes a closer look at challenges and opportunities related to handling and stunning livestock in U.S. slaughter establishments.
The presenters for this webinar are:
Dr. Karly Anderson is a Scientist and Trainer with the Humane Handling Institute. She completed her PhD at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a focus on animal health, welfare, and precision management. Dr. Anderson is also one of the leaders of the Animal Welfare Lab, where current research activities are focused on understanding and refining captive bolt stunning and euthanasia for a variety of livestock species. The overarching goal of Dr. Anderson’s work is to improve the lives – and deaths – of the animals we raise for food, and in turn improve the lives of the people who care for those animals.
Dr. Kurt Vogel is a Professor of Animal Welfare and Behavior at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls and Director of the Humane Handling Institute. He completed his PhD at Colorado State University with a focus in livestock behavior and welfare. Dr. Vogel is also one of the leaders of the Animal Welfare Lab, where current research activities are devoted to improving the efficacy of captive bolt application for a variety of meat animal species. Outside of UWRF, Dr. Vogel is a trusted mentor and guide on practical and applied implementation of animal handling, management, and slaughter processes. The core of Dr. Vogel’s professional devotion is deeply rooted in helping people and animals to live better.
